Master of Arts in Teaching: Elementary Education (Grades 2-6)

Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education degree is designed to help professionals who didn’t major in education become elementary school teachers. As part of this 52-credit hour program, you’ll complete the four literacy courses that South Carolina requires for all teachers. You’ll graduate qualified to teach second through sixth grade students in public and private schools and you’ll be equipped to help parents teach their children including in a home school setting.

The Master of Arts in Teaching: Elementary Education program is designed to accommodate students who have previously earned a degree in another field. Throughout the course of your Master of Arts in Teaching degree, you will learn the essential skills to become a builder of knowledge, values, and community. Some of the courses you will take as an MAT student include educational psychology, teaching content, and literacy education. At Anderson University, our vision is for each child to be taught by effective educators who embody these traits. We are committed to ensuring that you as our student will have multiple opportunities to hone these skills throughout your time in this program. This program is also designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to qualify for the South Carolina Initial Teacher certification in Elementary Education.

That Master of Arts in Teaching program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to qualify for the South Carolina Initial Teacher certification in Elementary Education.

You will be highly qualified to tutor or teach second through sixth grade students in public and private school settings, or in other specialized learning centers. Many graduates secure jobs in Anderson and surrounding counties.

A bachelor’s degree is required to enroll in this program.
Official undergraduate transcripts will need to be submitted as part of the application process for this program.

PRAXIS Core scores not required for admission. But students must pass all parts of PRAXIS Core or be exempt prior to the start of EDU 516 0 can exempt PRAXIS Core with a 22 ACT composite score, 1650 SAT score (2005-2015) or 1100 SAT score (March 2016-present)

The application deadline is two (2) weeks before a term start date.
